In order to make an informed decision, the Board of Education has spent time learning about the pros and cons of late start, digging into research on the subject, and listening to informal community input. This year, the Board hired a firm, Y2Analytics, to gather community feedback in a more formal manner. Y2Analytics reported their findings at our last Board meeting earlier this month. As part of the discussion, four different start time options were shared with the Board, Options A, B, C, which you can find on our district websitelink to late start options . At their next meeting, Board members will discuss these options and their impact on our students. In the month of January, Board members will also embark on a listening tour throughout the district. Because a change to high school start times will impact starting/ending times for almost all other schools in the district, we invite all SLCSD community members and stakeholders to join us at one of four listening sessions to share your thoughts on late start with our Board . Meetings will be held on: Monday, January 13, 2020, at 6 p.m. at Bryant Middle School ( RSVP on our Facebook eventFB event ) Thursday, January 16, 2020, at 6 p.m. at Northwest Middle School ( RSVP on our Facebook eventFB event ) Friday, January 17, 2020, at 6 p.m. at Hillside Middle School ( RSVP on our Facebook eventFB event ) Saturday, January 18, 2020, at 10 a.m. at the Glendale Public Library ( RSVP on our Facebook eventFB event ) Spanish translation will be provided at all four meetings. If you need translation services in any other language, we would be happy to accommodate. Translation requests require at least 48 hours’ notice and can be requested by calling Lisa Alleman at 801-578-8351. We hope you’ll join us at one or more of our listening sessions. If you are unable to attend any of the meetings, you can sign up to share your thoughts during the public comment portion of any Board meeting (sign up in person or by calling 801-578-8351) or reach out to your individual Board member.
